All right, let’s imagine your future… you’ve met your perfect match, your first meeting went well, love has blossomed, you and your Russian bride have promised your hearts to each other, and are ready for the next step.
(That’s how it happened for us!)
The next step is to meet her family and tell them about your decision to become a husband and a wife.
Traditionally in Russian culture, the future groom is expected to pay a visit to his bride’s parents. Once you’ve proposed and she agrees, the bride arranges the meeting and gets her parents’ consent first, then the groom visits the parents alone.
At this meeting, you will want to look your best – especially if it’s your first time at their house. Wear a suit and bring two bunches of flowers: one for the mother of the bride and the second one for your future wife. The way that it works is that you should literally ask the parents of your Russian bride for permission.
Grooms usually tell them about their feelings for their daughter and about how he will treat her when she becomes his wife before they “ask for her hand.” If parents approve, the father of the future bride puts the right hand of the daughter into the hand of their future son-in-law.
One thing to consider is the timing of the occasion. If you can, plan it for a holiday or family celebration so you and your Russian bride and her family can all get to know each other better.
